  • People with an eating disorder will go against hospitalization
  • Will get rewards for eating meals and not throwing up afterwards
  • Privileges will be given to patient as weight is gained
  • Patients are to set a weight that they want to be at when hospitalization is over
  • If patients don't cooperate with instructions, process will be slower
  • Patients should be monitored to make sure they don't throw up after eating
  • Starting calorie intake: 1500-2000 (more calories per day when patient gains weight)
  • Patient should eat six times a day
  • Might be fed by a liquid food supplement (sustagen) or IV

  • Teaches healthy actions
  • Monitors what you eat
  • Helps with stress
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy: thoughts and behaviors on eating disorders, education on nutrition, weight loss
  • Interpersonal-psychotherapy: learning good communication skills and getting support from others to forget about disorder
  • Dialectical behavior therapy: teaches self-acceptance, controlling emotions, and handling stress (individual and groups sessions)

Support Groups:
  • Support from other people helps break habits
  • Support can come from family, friends, therapists
  • Healthy to relate to people going through same problems
  • Group therapy
  • Trained volunteers or health professionals host
  • Give and get advice from each other
  • different health professionals are psychiatrists, therapists, eating disorder specialists, nutritionists, obesity specialists
  • Most important goal: losing or gaining weight depending on disorder
